How can BEC help my student?
We specialize in test prep, subject tutoring, and college planning for middle and high school students. Our services are tailored to meet your student’s specific goals based on their unique needs and abilities. We pinpoint academic challenges your child is facing, develop a plan of action to conquer those challenges, and achieve success through a mix of tutoring and drilling practice. One-on-one tutoring and small group sessions with vibrant, educated, and well-rounded tutors create an environment that instills knowledge, academic skills, and self-confidence in your student. We want your child to succeed on their academic journey, and we are here to answer any questions you have along the way. What grade levels do you teach? Middle School — Grades 5-8 High School — Grades 9-12 What students do you serve? We serve all types of students in private and public schools in the Chicagoland area and across the nation. Many of our students are preparing for high school entrance exams and college admissions, but we offer subject tutoring services as well. We also work with students with processing disorders, learning differences, and testing accommodations. Who are your tutors? Our tutors are writers, scientists, actors, and students who have graduated from top universities across the country. Our tutors are trained to provide quality instruction and guidance based on the methods developed by our CEO, Carlos Becerra. They bring a fresh perspective to your student’s work through their varied experiences and personalized approach. We hire tutors that not only possess elite academic credentials, but also connect and engage with students to make learning exciting. What happens after my student takes an assessment? After your student takes an assessment, you will receive a score report within one week. We will create a concept map that includes a recommended tutoring schedule and practice plan, along with any book or group class recommendations. Tutoring sessions and homework will focus on areas that your student needs help in, as indicated by their assessment results. Do you assign homework? At BEC, practice is an integral part of every student’s process. Therefore, our plans always include guided practice and supplementary materials intended to maximize in-person and online instruction. After each session, tutors assign homework based on the topics covered and areas that need improvement. What is the best way to contact BEC? The best method of communication with BEC is email. How does scheduling work?
BEC scheduling operates via an online system. We recommend that you book your student’s sessions via our online page where you can find the days and times that best fit their schedule. We open our schedules to book sessions two months at a time. Our most up-to-date tutor availability is posted online. You are welcome to call or email our office for more information about when our availability goes live. All sessions are booked on a “first come, first served” basis. For further scheduling instructions, click here! Does BEC offer online and in-person tutoring sessions? All BEC tutoring, test prep sessions and assessments are held online. How do I set up an account? If you are booking an initial appointment for your student, you can register for an account once you schedule the first assessment or session by clicking on “Register for an Account” on the confirmation page. For clients with existing appointments, you can click on the “Change or Cancel Appointment” button in your next appointment reminder email to register for an account. This will direct you to the appointment confirmation page where you will find the option to “Register for an Account”. What if I forget my account password? You are able to reset your password by visiting our online Book Now page. When you enter an incorrect password and click “Log In”, it will prompt you to change your password by clicking “Forgot your password?”. You can then enter the email address linked to your account and the system will email you instructions to reset your password. What if I have two students attending BEC and need to set up online accounts for both? Due to limitations within our scheduling system, you will need to set up separate student profiles under different email addresses. You can still populate the appointments to the same personal calendar once you receive the confirmation emails for each student’s appointments. Is it possible to schedule a recurring appointment? Our tutors make every effort to provide regular weekly hours. However, when a project may jet them away or a commitment keeps them out a few evenings, these schedule changes will be reflected online. Therefore, our scheduling system does not provide the option to schedule a recurring appointment. However, our Curriculum Team will ensure that your plan is consistent regardless of instructor. Keep in mind that all sessions are first come, first served. Is there a limit on how many appointments I am able to book? We highly suggest that you follow the session frequency recommended in your student’s prep plan and/or BEC materials. This usually equates to once or twice per week with an assessment at the end of each series of sessions. Please email us at [email protected] with any questions regarding your student’s recommended plan and session frequency. Please note that in order to ensure everyone can utilize this system and our services to their optimal capacity, we ask that our clients refrain from booking sessions to hold multiple spots and double-check their schedules before booking. If this policy is violated, we do reserve the right to suspend online scheduling for clients who do not follow these guidelines and those in our Terms and Conditions. This allows us to continue delivering the exceptional service we pride ourselves on. Thank you for your partnership in this process. How will I know when the next month becomes available for booking? On the first Monday of every second month, the following two months schedule will go live for booking (For example, on Monday, June 6th at 9:00am, our July and August schedules will be available to book online). Clients on our email list will receive multiple emails the week prior to that date as reminders that schedules will be available soon. Clients will also receive an email on the scheduling date notifying them that schedules are now available to book for the next two months. Be sure to keep an eye out for these messages if you are interested in booking sessions! tutors + recommendations

All of our tutors complete extensive, continual training to deliver effective instruction. We provide short bios about each tutor in order to highlight their personalities and educational backgrounds. BEC always strives to provide the very best experience for your student. Any questions about the right fit, please don’t hesitate to contact us at [email protected]. What service should I book for my student and how many appointments should I schedule? We highly suggest that you follow the session frequency recommended in your student’s test prep plan and/or BEC materials. This usually equates to once or twice per week with an assessment at the end of each series of sessions. Further explanation can be found within your student’s test prep plan. How do I keep up with my student’s progress? We use Google Drive to store student session notes and homework. Google Drive is always a great way to keep up with your students' session-to-session progress. When signing up, we will ask you for your student's preferred Google Drive email. If you don't have an email registered with Google Drive, we are happy to post a link on your online client profile or feel free to sign up for a free account (Gmail is not required). billing + cancelLation policies
How does payment work?
You are required to keep a card on file in order to book sessions via your online account. Our Billing Team will run the card on file after each session has been completed. What is BEC's cancellation policy? We require 24 hours notice for cancellation of sessions. Because our tutors are committed to scheduled times and plan for scheduled sessions, you will not be reimbursed for sessions canceled less than 24 hours in advance. We reserve the right to request written confirmation of any emergencies. What if I need to cancel my student’s appointment but it is within the 24-hour cancellation period? Please contact our staff directly at 773-275-7971 or [email protected]. Our 24-hour cancellation fee will apply for that session. Online Sessions
What does my student need to prepare for an online individual tutoring appointment?
Online sessions require the download of a free app called Zoom. You can access this by clicking on the URL found in your appointment reminder or confirmation email. View this document or the information above for more details on how to set up online sessions. We recommend joining tutoring sessions on a desktop or laptop computer if available. iPads or tablets can also work well if all apps are up to date. How does my student join an online group session? You can access online group sessions via the same method as setting up for individual sessions. Click the URL in your appointment reminder and join the online meeting via Zoom. If your student cannot make the exact time of the class, links to recordings of the session and additional resources can be provided. How can my student take an assessment online from home? For middle school students, we will share instructions via email for accessing the online assessment. The assessment can be opened and completed via a web browser. We suggest using a tablet or computer if available. For high school students, we will share instructions via email for accessing take-home practice tests. These will either be shared via Google Drive or via an online testing portal. Do I need to purchase a subscription for Zoom? You do not need to purchase a subscription for Zoom. Since our tutors act as the "hosts" of each Zoom meeting and they have Premium accounts, your student can join with the free option and does not need to upgrade to a paid account for the hour-long session. What if I want appointment reminders with the Zoom meeting link to be sent to my student? Please notify our staff via email or phone. We can add multiple email addresses to appointment reminders from our system so that you and your student both receive the reminder emails. |
